Optos

What is Optos?

Optos is an advanced imaging technology used in eye care to capture ultra-widefield images of the retina in a single scan. It allows eye specialists to view up to 200° of the retina, compared to just 45° with traditional methods. The device uses low-powered laser wavelengths to create detailed images without dilating the pupils. This helps detect early signs of eye diseases like glaucoma, retinal tears, and diabetic retinopathy quickly and comfortably.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Optos safe for Children?

Yes, Optos retinal imaging is safe for children. In fact, since many vision problems can start in early childhood, an optomap is quite useful in giving children quality eye care.

Early detection is crucial when it comes to any issues with your vision. Optos retinal imaging allows your optometrist to explore your eyes and vision in detail and immediately review your eye health with you during your appointment. At Catonsville Eye Group, our doctors recommend having Optos Retinal imaging done as part of your annual exam.

An optomap only takes seconds to perform, and is not painful, and typically does not require dilation. However, a doctor may decide dilation is still needed.
